House of Zwide, a South African soapie which began in 2021 is closing its curtains in this winter leaving a great chasm in the entertainment World especially for some of us who had the opportunity to mix and mingle with some of the Protagonists like Nefisa Tarisca Mkhabela who stars as Onalerona and Thato Dithebe ( Neo). The themes of love, hatred, culture and the comic relief of the soap became a reality after interacting with Neo and Ona who accepted to be identified with their casting roles as they are known on the small screen. They were humble and yielded to a short interview when we met at Netflix in Cape Town, South Africa two years ago. One thing notable was that some roles individuals play directly represent their hospitality or cruelty in real life. Nevertheless, it was thumbs up for Ona and Neo vis -a- vis other characters in other soaps I met. The exit of House of Zwide which is highly interpolated on the fashion business extravaganza is painful as it had become a daily Monday to Friday must watch and exposed the real South African lifestyle to Mzansi lovers who adore it from around the World on its 7pm time slot on Entertainment tv (e.t.v.). House of Zwide replaced the defunct Rhythm City and successfully filled in the gap which was left behind. However, directors of the soap in media reports defended the upcoming exit of the soap as best to avoid redundancy and effectiveness of the message of the main plot. Nonetheless, although doors are closing : House of Zwide managed to successfully edutain its viewers all over the world and succinctly championed fashion as a business endeavor that can bring bread and butter on the table.
