Film Review : Scandal

    The Scandal cast

It's a daily half an hour long, South African soap opera that runs from Monday to Friday screened on Entertainment television (Etv) station on 19.30 pm since September 2005. The necessity for choosing to do a synopsis on Scandal is because it is too realistic it vibes with the true events that take place in South Africa. It edutains viewers and helps them by chastising them to straighten up their moral standing. It is a contemporary soap that highlights the consequences of immoral behaviour by different generations from the youths to the elderly.

Hlengiwe Twala (real name Nunu Khumalo)

In it's current contemporary viewing Scandal exhibits Hlengiwe a renowned reporter for Scandal publications who gets descriminated and threatened by trying to unearth the porous justice system under prosecutor  Serwalo (real name Sello Sebotsane) which sweeps cases under the carpet. She loses her job but she doesn't give up she continues her investigations as a freelance journalist. But her zest to get justice gets bloody when her ex - boyfriend is murdered and she is implicated. This is in sync with the mordern day South African society which is infested with criminal activities but however, Scandal succinctly puts it in a way that the World sees how porous the legal system is not only in South Africa but in the Global community as well. There is also a shift in theme in it's current screening as it quickly depicts a highly addicted nation as is graphically exhibited in Karabo who lifts weights using drugs symptomatic of an addicted Mannenburg environment, in Cape Town where they even drug the dogs, Karabo (real  name Bohlokwa Mpiti) is posited as a ruthless aggressive character that loses out because of the effects of drugs. His nose bleeding and passing out is an epitome of the hazardous nature of abusing drugs.

Nonetheless, the continual shift in the theme quickly centers on Nqobile (real name Zekhethelo Zondi) and Tebello (real name Litlhonolofatso Litlhakanyane) the school kids who are boyfriend and girlfriend with Neo Mokheti (real name Jerry Mofokeng), grand dad to Tebello, as a legal guardian who moves in to correct them in their errenous endeavour that almost cost Nqobile her life. It's a must see soap , filled with comedy and tragedy, which should be viewed by every South African and the World over so as to receive a moral correction and to articulate the message being diffused.
