Road Carnage Must Be Managed By Drivers

Drivers should take responsibility when they embark on their various destinations on the roads and value the sanctity of life. A fortnight ago several people perished in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town, South Africa after a Bakkie collided with a taxi that was carrying passengers and media reports recorded the death of five school children who were on board which was a very sad development and such disasters must continue to be put on record to caution drivers to remember that the whole idea is to preserve life and arrive safely to your intended destination. It is clear that once an engine of a vehicle idles it should only be switched off on arrival. The story of the Mitchell's Plain disaster succinctly encapsulates the consequences of reckless driving and the pain inflicted on the families of the school children who were unable to go back home. Not only did it end with Mitchell's Plain but the death of a little child (name supplied) in Tembisa and those injured from the fight chase that was perpetrated by taxi drivers was an unfair recklessness that injured civilians and even caused the loss of life. It is The Gaze Magazine's plea with taxi drivers to value the sanctity of human life ahead of vendettas.
